L 2-1

Zebulon, NC --- Meeting for the first time in over three months, the Mobile BayBears eked out a 2-1 win over the Carolina Mudcats at Five County Stadium before 5,483 fans on Friday night.

Carolina's lead in the Northern Division was sliced to two games as second-place West Tenn was suspended by rain at home against Chattanooga.

Jack Cassel (W, 3-2) earned the victory by pitching six innings, allowing just four hits and striking out seven.  Cassel allowed a run to score in the first inning on a roller by Jason Hill which second baseman Peeter Ramos could not barehand for the third out.  JC Muniz, who went 3-4 with a pair of doubles, scored from second.

Luke Lockwood (L, 2-7) suffered another tough loss with little offensive support.  Lockwood worked a season-high seven innings, allowing six hits and two runs, both scoring in the second inning.  Lockwood has received below three runs a game during his 14 starts this season, yet remains in the top 10 of the league in ERA.

Dale Thayer (S, 26) worked out of ninth inning trouble to record his league-best 26th save.

The Mudcats send Adam Bostick (4-2, 3.67) to the hill on Saturday night against Jose Oyervidez (6-9, 4.00) at 7:15 PM ET.
