Zebulon, NC --- Rick Bell doubled home the tie-breaking run in a five-run ninth inning as Chattanooga sent Carolina to its sixth straight loss, 6-1 at Five County before 5,348 fans on Friday night.
The Lookouts (21-32), who beat the Mudcats for the ninth time in 23 games, scored all five runs against Clint Sodowsky (L, 0-1). Chattanooga sent 10 hitters to the plate in taking the opener of the three-game series.
Josh Johnson worked the first six innings for Carolina (30-22), allowing two hits and one run, striking out seven.
The Lookouts went ahead in the first on a double by Stephen Smitherman, but the Mudcats tied the game in the last of the first on a single by Jeremy Hermida. Robert Andino raced home to tie the game after doubling into the right field corner.
Josh Hall (W, 4-5) earned the win, pitching eight solid innings, fanning nine and permitting just one run on eight hits.
Hermida had three of Carolina's nine hits, while Matt Demarco went 2-4.
Nic Ungs (6-5, 3.96) starts Saturday night against Phil Dumatrait (4-11, 3.40) at 7:15 PM ET.
