Sevierville, TN --- Chris Carter hit a grand slam to cap an eight-run fourth inning as Tennessee crushed Carolina to split a four-game series at Smokies Park on Sunday, prevailing 12-1.
Nic Ungs (L, 6-5) allowed seven runs in 3 2/3 innings, but watched from the dugout as reliever Ross Wolf permitted Carter's blast to right field. The slam culminated an 11-batter inning as Tennessee won the final regular season meeting of 2005 between the teams.
Carolina's lone run came home on a double in the fifth on a double by Robert Andino. Andino had two of the Mudcats' six hits.
The Mudcats won the season series 13-7, and head to Birmingham for four games in three days, starting with a Monday doubleheader against the Southern-leading Barons. Luke Lockwood (2-5) starts the opener with newly added Andy Torres likely pitching game two for the Mudcats. The first pitch is slated for 6:00 PM ET from Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
