W 13 - 3
Chattanooga, TN --- Carolina's
offense continued its early season revival, swatting
four homers as part of a 20-hit assault of the
Chattanooga Lookouts, leading to a 13-3 victory at
Bell South Park on Tuesday night.
Each Mudcat position player had at least two hits,
including four from Jeremy Hermida and three by
Robert Andino. The 3-6 hitters in the Mudcats
lineup each homered within a four inning span.
In the fifth, James Shanks and Chris Ashby took Brad
Cherry deep, while Todd Sears connected for a
three-run homer in the sixth against Cherry.
Sears was initially stopped at second base as the
umpires conferred. After Mudcats manager Gary
Allenson requested a review, the umpiring crew
changed the call and Sears completed circling the
bases. In the eighth, Hermida launched the
deepest of the four homers, a solo homer against
Lookouts reliever Miguel Saladin, atop the
third-level digital message board beyond the
right-centerfield power alley.
Carolina's power barrage opened up a 2-1 game after
four innings. Back in the first inning,
Lookouts starter Ben Kozlowski was knocked out of
the game on a liner by Sears which caught Kozlowski
in the mouth, knocking out a tooth and forcing him
out of the game.
Josh Johnson (W, 2-1) earned the win with five
innings, allowing five hits and one run.
Jerrod Fuell pitched a scoreless sixth, while Luke
Lockwood allowed two runs over three innings to earn
the save.
Carolina has scored 20 runs in two games in
Chattanooga, and moved to 8-3, remaining in the
Northern Division lead.
Wednesday's third game of the series is at 12:15 PM
ET with Scott Olsen (2-0, 0.00) starting against
Lookouts righty Richie Gardner (1-0, 5.00) at Bell
South.
