Jackson, TN - Richard Lewis collected three hits and drove in four runs to lead West Tenn to a 6-4 win over the Carolina Mudcats before 3,227 fans at Pringles Park on Saturday night.
Lewis tripled in a run in the first, doubled in two in the fifth and doubled home another in the sixth as West Tenn (28-20) maintained the best record in the Southern League.
Ronald Belizario (L, 1-4, 3.2ip, 5h, 5r, 5er, 5w, 2k) pitched his shortest outing of the season, knocked out in the fourth after allowing three runs. The Diamond Jaxx pushed across two in the first in a game in which the Mudcats (26-23) never led.
Reynel Pinto (W, 5-2) fanned eight, walked five over five laborious innings to earn the win.
Trailing 6-2 in the ninth, Carolina scored twice on a pinch-triple by Pat Magness (1-1, 3b, rbi, r) and a single by Josh Wilson (HR, 4, 4-4, r, 2rbi, w). Closer Jermaine Van Buren pitched for the third consecutive day, retiring Josh Willingham (0-5, 2k, gdp) and Jason Stokes (0-5, 2k) as the tying run to end the game.
Wilson had his second four-hit game of the season, reaching in all five plate appearances.
Mike McNutt (ND, 3.1ip, 3h, 1r, 1er, 0w, 2k) pitched through the seventh inning after Belizario's departure, with Todd Moser (ND, 1ip, 0h, 0r, 1w, 1k) working a scoreless eighth.
Wilson hit a solo homer in the seventh inning against Scott Chiasson.
Carolina fell two games behind Chattanooga in the East with 21 games to play in the first half.
Peter Bauer (4-2) starts against Chadd Blasko (3-3) in the series finale Sunday afternoon at 2:05 PM ET.
