Zebulon, NC - Edwin Encarnacion drove in four runs to lead Chattanooga to an 11-7 win over Carolina at Five County Stadium before 4,156 fans on Thursday night.
A six-run second inning set the Lookouts (23-18) apart from the Mudcats (21-20). Trevor Hutchinson (L, 5-3, 2ip, 5h, 6r, 2er, 1w, 1k) drew his second straight loss.
The Lookouts big inning occurred with two outs and none on. Chattanooga married four straight hits, combined with a walk, an error then a three-run double by Encarnacion.
Brian Rose (W, 3-2) defeated the Mudcats for the first time in three appearances despite allowing nine hits and six runs in five innings.
Pat Magness (3-3, r, 2-2b, 3rbi, w) paced the Mudcats offense with a pair of doubles, a single and a walk.
Carolina trailed by six runs twice, and closed to within 10-7 and had the tying run reach the plate twice in the seventh inning.
The Mudcats have lost three straight, seven of their last eight, and are now in fourth place in the East, two games behind the Lookouts and Jacksonville Suns.
Nic Ungs (2-1, 3.12) starts the finale against Chattanooga Friday night against former Mudcat Luke Hudson (1-3, 3.74) at 7:15 PM ET.
