Zebulon, NC - Kenny Kelly bounced a single to left field in the 11th inning as Chattanooga dealt Carolina its fifth loss in six games, 3-2 at Five County Stadium on Wednesday night.

Kelly, who tripled home the Lookouts' first run in the seventh inning as Chattanooga (22-18) rallied to tie the game 2-2, hopped a pitch from Pat Flury (ND, 0.2ip, 1h, 0r, 1w, 0k) past third baseman Joe Dillon (1-5, 2b, rbi, 3k) to score William Bergolla from third to break the tie in the 11th.

Peter Bauer (ND, 7ip, 6h, 2r, 2er, 0w, 7k) rebounded from his worst start of the season with one of his best. Bauer carried a four-hit shutout into the seventh inning. Bauer had a three-ball count on just two of the 26 batters he faced. Bauer did not walk a batter, striking out seven in a season-high seven innings. Five days prior, Bauer allowed eight runs on 10 hits in four innings against his former Tennessee Smokies.

Carolina (21-19) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning after a 52-minute rain delay. Dillon grounded home Josh Wilson (1-4, r, w) from third, then Pat Magness (2-5, rbi, 2k) singled in Chip Ambres (0-5, r, 2k) with the second run against Steve Kelly.

The Mudcats remained in a third-place tie, now with the Tennessee Smokies, one game in back of the East-leading tandem Lookouts and Jacksonville Suns. Thirty games remain in the first half race.

Trevor Hutchinson (5-2, 4.60) starts Thursday night against Brian Rose (2-2, 3.27) at 7:15 PM ET at Five County Stadium.

Notes: 1B Jason Stokes was not in the starting lineup for the second straight game. Stokes has been hobbled by an ankle injury suffered last week in Chattanooga on a foul ball. Stokes missed one game in Chattanooga following the injury, played all four in Sevierville against the Smokies, but has been held out of the lineup by manager Ron Hassey to permit Stokes time to heal fully. Stokes has been used as a pinch-hitter in both Tuesday and Wednesday night's games. Pat Magness has received the starting nod at first base, collecting three hits and two RBI in the two games... Bauer made 103 pitches on Wednesday night, the first Mudcat starter to surpass 100 pitches this season.
