Zebulon, NC - Two errors led to four two-out runs in the 10th inning as Jacksonville defeated Carolina 7-4 on Sunday afternoon at Five County Stadium.
Josh Wilson dropped a two-out liner to start the uprising, then after a two-run double by Derek Michaelis gave the Suns the lead, Wilson threw wildly over first baseman Jason Stokes to allow two more runs to score.
The Suns (30-26) leapfrogged over Carolina (30-27) into second place in the East a day after Carolina overtook second place. The Suns trail first-place Chattanooga by 1 1/2, with Carolina sitting two back.
Nic Ungs (ND, 6+ip, 6h, 2r, 2er, 1w, 5k) saw his first pitch of the game drilled for a homer by Reggie Abercrombie, but settled down over the next five innings, permitting only one more run.
Carolina tied the game 1-1 in the third when Jimmy Goelz (1-3, rbi, s) hit a grounder to score Dennis Anderson (1-3, r, w, cs). Anderson reached on a bunt single, and advanced to third on two errant Suns throws.
After the Suns went ahead on a bad-hop single in the fifth inning, Carolina moved ahead with two in the sixth. Starting pitcher Glenn Bott walked the first two hitters before a bloop single by Jeff Inglin (1-5, rbi, gdp) tied the game. After a walk filled the bases, Elvin Nina entered from the bullpen. Chip Ambres (0-4, 3k, gdp) hit into a double play to score the go-ahead run.
Jacksonville evened the game 3-3 in the eighth against Pat Flury (BS-ND, 2ip, 1h, 1r, 1er, 0w, 2k). Loney doubled high against the right-field wall, advanced on a wild pitch, then scored on a sacrifice fly by Willy Aybar.
