Zebulon, NC - Jeff Fulchino fanned 10 in 6 2/3 innings to win his first Double-A game as Carolina hiked into second place with a 4-0 win over the Jacksonville Suns on Saturday night.

Fulchino (W, 1-0, 6.2ip, 1h, 0r, 2w, 10k), retired 18 of the first 19 batters he faced, only allowing a two-out double to James Loney in the fourth inning.

Carolina, winners of three straight, moved past the Suns (29-26) into second place, trailing first-place Chattanooga by two games with 14 to play in the first half.

Consecutive doubles by Billy Hall (2-3, r, 2b, rbi, w) and Matt Demarco (2-3, 2-2b, rbi, k) put Carolina (30-26) up 2-0 in the second inning against Dimas Reina (L, 0-1).

The Mudcats scored an unearned run in the sixth off of reliever Winston Abreu on a Pat Magness (0-3, rbi, sf, 2k) sacrifice fly.  Jason Stokes (1-4, r, k) scored on the right-field flyball after singling, stealing second and advancing on a throwing error.

Josh Wilson (HR, 6, 1-4, rbi) hit a solo homer in the seventh inning, his second in two games.

Todd Moser (ND, 0.2ip, 1h, 0r, 0w, 0k) relieved Fulchino in the seventh inning, stranding two baserunners as Derek Michaelis fouled to catcher Josh Willingham (1-2, r, 2w, sb, cs) on a 3-0 pitch.

In the eighth, Moser allowed a one-out single to Tony Socarras and was replaced by Brian Strelitz, making his second Carolina appearance.  Pinch-hitter Brett Dowdy doubled Socarras to third before Strelitz induced a pop out by Jason Repko and a soft flyout from Reggie Abercrombie.  Strelitz retired the side in the ninth inning.

Nic Ungs (3-2, 3.69) starts the third game of the series on Sunday at 4:00 PM ET against Suns RH TJ Nall (4-1, 7.20).

Notes:  The shutout was Carolina's sixth, which leads the Southern League...  Fulchino's 10 strikeouts tied a career high set in his first start of the 2002 season.  Fulchino fanned 10 Burlington Bees in five innings on April 4 in the Midwest League pitching for Kane County...  Carolina's three-game winning streak is its longest since winning seven straight from May 6th-12th...  Andre Dawson, a special assistant to Marlins GM Larry Beinfest, is in attendance for the weekend series against the Suns...  Former Mudcat Choo Freeman collected his first two hits of his major league career on Saturday night at Coors Field against San Francisco.  Freeman's first hit was a single against Giants starter Kirk Rueter.  Freeman was batting eighth and playing centerfield.
