Notes: Tennessee SS John Nelson seriously injured his ankle rounding third base in an attempt to score on an inside-the-park homer in the first inning. Steve Balboni, coaching third base appeared to try to halt Nelson from scoring, then Nelson slipped on the grass with light rain falling. The throw to the plate overshot catcher Dennis Anderson, caught by Belizario, who slowly walked to Nelson, who had crumbled to the ground between third and home, and tagged him out.... Reed's four RBI represented a career-high. Twice Reed drove in three runs, including April 27 against Birmingham earlier this season.... Brian Strelitz made his Carolina debut, pitching two innings allowing a homer to Jon Hamilton. Strelitz and Reed were teammates at Texas A&M for two seasons.
