Zebulon, NC - A six-run seventh inning propelled Montgomery to an 11-8 win over Carolina at Five County Stadium on Saturday night.
The Biscuits (14-21) sent 12 batters to the plate, scoring six times against relievers Ruddy Lugo (L, 0-1, 2.1ip, 4h, 5r, 4er, 0w, 1k) and Mike Flannery (ND, 1ip, 2h, 2r, 1er, 2w, 3k). Lugo allowed a tie-breaking homer to Iker Franco on the first pitch of the inning for a 5-4 Montgomery lead. Eleven batters later, the Biscuits had piled up five additional hits and runs for a 10-4 lead.
Carolina (14-20) twice erased two-run deficits. The Mudcats spotted the Biscuits a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Making his first Double-A start, Jason Iehl allowed a single and double to begin the game. Iehl retired the next two hitters before Eric Reece singled to left, driving in a pair.
Chip Ambres (HR, 12, 13, 3-5, 2r, 4rbi, k, sb) hit the first of two homers in the first inning against Seth McClung, who worked 4 2/3 innings in a major league rehab start. Carolina tied the game on a sacrifice fly by Dennis Anderson (0-3, rbi, sf, k) in the second.
The teams traded two-run homers in the fourth. Montgomery's Vince Harrison homered against Lugo, while Ryan Minor (HR, 4, 3-4, 2r, 2-2b, 2rbi) drilled a home run with one aboard against McClung to tie the score.
The Mudcats started the ninth inning trailing 11-5 before a two-out, none-on rally started. Rex Rundgren (2-4, 2r, 3b, k) singled, Matt Demarco (0-5, r, rbi) reached on an error before Ambres homered to left. Jeff Inglin (1-3, 2b, 2w) walked before the Biscuits brought in Austin Coose from the bullpen. Jason Stokes singled to bring the tying run to the plate. Facing their 11th pitch with two-strikes and two-outs in the ninth, Ryan's hard grounder was fielded by Dan Dement to end the game.
Carolina remained 8 1/2 behind first-place Chattanooga in the East, but returned to last place with the loss, which halted a three-game winning streak.

Notes: Former Mudcats LHP Bill Murphy was traded again on Saturday before the non-waiver deadline of 4:00 PM ET. Murphy was packaged up in a five-player trade to Arizona. Murphy was property of the Los Angeles Dodgers for only one day... C Casey Grzecka made his professional pitching debut in the ninth for Carolina, working a scoreless inning. Grzecka saw his second pitch smoked against the centerfield wall before walking a batter. Grzecka then recorded his first two outs on warning track flyballs to center and left. Eric Reece flew to medium center to end the inning. Grzecka was pitching due to unavailable arms in the Mudcats bullpen... Ambres' two-homer game was the first in his 598-game career... Selma, NC native Carlos Hines earned the win in relief for the Biscuits. Hines was cheered from a rooting section near the Biscuits bullpen when he entered the game, with every out he recorded, and when the Biscuits took the lead which put Hines in position to win. Selma is only about 20 miles from Five County Stadium. Hines pitched at Selma-Smithfield High School.
