Zebulon, NC - Andy Marte led off the ninth inning with a home run as Greenville outlasted Carolina 3-2 in the series finale at Five County Stadium on Thursday night.

Marte slugged a 3-2 pitch from Mike Flannery (L, 2-1, 3ip, 3h, 3r, 3er, 0w, 0k) over the left field wall, culminating a Braves rally from a 2-0 deficit.

Greenville (17-8) remained in a first-place tie in the East, dropping Carolina (10-16) further into last, 7 1/2 games behind.

Carolina went ahead with two runs in the fourth inning, one scoring on a single by Rob Ryan (1-4, rbi, k, gdp), and the second scoring after a one-hour, 55-minute rain delay on a sacrifice fly by Casey Grzecka (0-2, rbi, sf, w).

Peter Bauer (ND, 4ip, 2h, 0r, 1w, 2k) worked four solid innings for the Mudcats before the rains swept through.

Carolina filled the bases with one out in the ninth against former Mudcat Jamie Emiliano, but a Matt Demarco tapper forced out a runner at home plate before Jeff Inglin hit a comebacker to the mound.

The Mudcats had eight hits in the game, including two by Inglin (2-5, r, k) and Jason Stokes (2-4, r, 2k). Demarco (0-5) went 0-5 to end his team-high 11-game hitting streak.

After Ryan Baker (ND, 2ip, 1h, 0r, 0w, 0k) worked two scoreless innings, the Braves trimmed the deficit in the seventh with a homer by Kelly Johnson. Adam Stern's double in the eighth tied the game.

Greenville won the series 3-1.

Carolina opens an eight-game road trip in Chattanooga Friday night. Nic Ungs (5-6, 4.60) starts against former Mudcat Luke Hudson (6-7, 3.66) at 7:15 PM ET.
