Zebulon, NC - Billy Hall paced a balanced eight-hit attack as Carolina won its third straight game, defeating Tennessee 6-1 before 2,443 at Five County Stadium on Thursday night.

Chip Ambres drilled a pinch-hit three-run double in the sixth to open up a 4-0 lead for the Mudcats (8-11), who won their third straight game for the first time since June 3-5.

Carolina scored a first inning run against Anthony Reyes (L, 1-1) on a balk which forced Hall in from third base. Hall (2-4, r, rbi, ibb, sb) singled to open the inning, stole second, then advanced to third on a single by Jeff Inglin (1-3, w).

Bill Murphy (ND, 4ip, 2h, 0r, 2w, 5k) worked a 72-pitch four-inning start, walking two, allowing two hits and fanning five.

Mike McNutt (W, 2-0, 2ip, 1h, 0r, 0w, 2k) worked two scoreless innings to earn the win, while Pat Flury (ND, 2ip, 1h, 0r, 2w, 2k) pitched the seventh and eighth. Randy Messenger (ND, 1ip, 1h, 1r, 1er, 1w, 0k, 2wp) allowed Tennessee's only run in the ninth after a walk, two wild pitches and a groundout.

Andy Rohleder (1-2, 2r, 2b, hbp, w, k) reached three times and scored two of Carolina's runs.

Carolina continues its homestand against the Smokies Friday night with Trevor Hutchinson (5-5, 5.68) against the Smokies Chris Narveson (3-8, 4.72) at 7:15 PM ET.
