Montgomery, AL - Dan Masiatte doubled in three runs to break a 1-1 eighth inning tie as Montgomery beat Carolina in the first-ever meeting between the franchises at Riverwalk Stadium on Thursday night.
Massiatte's double came on an 0-2 pitch after Pat Flury (L, 0-3, 1ip, 1h, 3r, 3er, 3w, 2k) walked the bases loaded with two outs.
Carolina (5-10) had just tied the game in the top half of the eighth on a short sacrifice fly by Billy Hall (1-3, rbi, sf). Rex Rundgren (1-3, r, 2b, k) doubled to lead off the inning, and was bunted to third by Charles Frazier (0-2, s). Hall's flyball came off of winning pitcher Austin Coose (W, 4-3).
Carolina, which managed five hits - three by Matt Demarco (3-4, 2-2b, k) - was playing its first game with first baseman Jason Stokes, who had been sidelined with a left wrist injury since June 14. Stokes was 0-4 with two strikeouts in his return.
Trevor Hutchinson (ND, 6ip, 6h, 1r, 1er, 1w, 3k) worked his longest outing, six innings, since May 10. Hutchinson stranded six baserunners, allowing his only run in the fourth inning on doubles by Amado German and Eric Reece.
The Biscuits (6-9) moved from Orlando, Florida preceding the 2004 season, and drew 4,259 in the series opener against the Mudcats.
Jeff Fulchino (2-2, 5.73) starts against Montgomery lefty Chris Seddon (5-4, 3.56) Friday night at 8:05 PM ET.

Notes: To create room on the 23-man roster, the Marlins released 1B/OF Pat Magness prior to Thursday's game.... Demarco's three-hit game was his third in five starts.... Jarod Matthews worked seven shutout innings for the Biscuits, but received a no-decision.... The Biscuits roster has many North Carolina ties. Reliever Carlos Hines, the only member of the Biscuits on the Tampa Bay 40-man roster, played high school ball at Smithfield-Selma High. Mike Prochaska, who will not start in the series against Carolina, pitched at North Carolina State, and still lives in Raleigh.
