Sevierville, TN - Brad Cresse hit two homers
and drove in four runs to lead Tennessee past Carolina
6-2 at Smokies Park on Monday night.
Cresse doubled in a run in the first, then homered
twice against Nic Ungs (L, 7-8, 5ip, 8h, 6r, 6er, 0w,
7k) to cap a 3-3 night.
Carolina (18-24) took a 1-0 lead in the first against
Jeremy Cook (W, 7-3) when Billy Hall (1-3, r, 2b, w)
doubled and advanced on a bunt single by Matt Demarco
(1-4). Jeff Inglin (0-4, gdp) bounced into a double
play as Hall scored.
Tennessee (19-24) scored three runs in the first to
gain a 3-1 lead, then stretched to 6-1 on Cresse's opposite
field homer in the third and long, two-run homer in
the fifth. Ungs has now allowed a league-high 22 homers
this season.
Jason Stokes (1-4, r, 2b, k) and Rob Ryan (3-4, 2-2b,
rbi) doubled in the seventh against Cook to close the
gap to 6-2.
Ungs fell to 0-3 in five starts against Tennessee,
and has permitted 11 homers in 23 innings against the
Smokies. Cook, who has not lost since June 25, improved
to 4-0 in six appearances against the Mudcats.
Carolina sends Jason Iehl (0-0, 3.86) against Tennessee's
Randy Leek (3-6, 3.93) Tuesday night at 7:15 PM ET.

Notes: Ungs had given up 22 homers in his first three
seasons, spanning 370 innings. Ungs allowed his 22nd
of 2004 in the fifth inning.... LHP Todd Moser, who
pitched for Carolina in 2003 and the first half of 2004,
was signed by St. Louis after being released in June,
started Tennessee's game on Sunday, and will not face
Carolina in this series... Tennessee leads the season-series
12-9... LHP Jason Pearson pitched 1 1/3 innings on Monday
night. Pearson pitched in nine games for Tennessee in
2003.
