Zebulon, NC - Carolina swept a Tuesday
doubleheader from Montgomery, splitting its four-game
series with the Biscuits at Five County Stadium.
Trevor Hutchinson (W, 7-6) pitched six innings of a
1-0 victory in game one, while Nic Ungs (W, 7-7) worked
five innings allowing just one run in the nightcap.
Carolina (16-21) scored the first game's only run on
a double by Rob Ryan in the second inning, scoring Ryan
Minor who had tripled with two outs.
In the nightcap, Ungs surrendered a homer to Brian
Martin in the second, but tied the game in the bottom
half on a two-out single by Andy Rohleder. The Mudcats
sent 10 hitters up in the third, knocking starter Jason
Cromer from the game and scoring six runs on seven hits.
The Mudcats took the lead on a double by Billy Hall,
scoring Rex Rundgren. Chip Ambres followed with an RBI-double.
Jeff Inglin singled Ambres home as part of the big inning.
New lefties Joe Rodriguez and Jason Pearson each allowed
a run in their debuts for Carolina.
Carolina sits 8 1/2 games behind first-place Chattanooga.
The Mudcats split their four-game series with the Biscuits,
and halved the eight regular season meetings in 2004.
Carolina has Wednesday off before resuming its homestand
Thursday night against Huntsville at 7:15 PM ET. Jason
Iehl (0-0, 5,78) starts against Huntsville's Ryan Costello
(6-4, 4.10).
