Zebulon, NC - Bill Murphy pitched six scoreless innings to win his first game as a member of the Florida organization, leading Carolina to a 4-1 win over Chattanooga at Five County Stadium on Wednesday night.

Murphy (W, 1-1, 6IP, 3H, 0R, 2W, 4K) stranded six baserunners over his first four innings, then retired the final seven batters he faced. Murphy's start began with Andy Beattie hitting his third pitch off of Murphy's body. Murphy remained in the game to engineer the Mudcats (8-5) into a second-place tie with the Lookouts (8-5) in the East. Murphy was drafted originally by Oakland in 2002 and traded to the Marlins last December.

Josh Willingham (HR, 5, 2-3, R, 2RBI, SF) hit a first inning sacrifice fly to score Eric Reed (1-4, R, 2K, SB), then drilled a solo homer to left field in the fourth against Charlie Manning (L, 1-1). Carolina scored three times in the fourth inning to establish a 4-0 advantage. Following Willingham's homer, Joe Dillon (0-3, R, W, K) walked, advanced on a passed ball, took third on Chip Ambres' (3-4, R, 2B, K, CS) single. Jim Kavourias (0-2, W, K, GDP) walked to fill the bases ahead of a sacrifice fly by Michael Tucker (0-2, RBI, SF, K). Murphy followed with a run-scoring single to chase home Ambres.

Bryan Gall (ND, 2IP, 0H, 0R, 0W, 1K) worked two perfect innings in his Carolina debut. Gaal was demoted from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday night. Randy Messenger (ND, 1IP, 3H, 1R, 1ER, 0W, 1K) allowed a run on three hits in the ninth, permitting pinch-hitter Jeff Bannon to represent the tying run, but Bannon grounded out to end the game.

The series and homestand conclude Thursday night with Ronald Belizario (0-2, 6.24) starting against Lookouts right-hander Seth Etherton (2-0, 0.82) at 7:15 PM ET.
